Notes

Joel and Patsy Howell (Gainesville, GA) suggested that Articissa Lann may be buried in an unmarked grave in Boggan Cemetery, Monroe Co., "in one of those big brick vaults that some of the wealthiest people used in those days.  These graves were never marked permanently.  In recent years the vaults were removed unfortunately."  [As transmitted by Joy Wiley, Amarillo, TX, 1989]

Cyntha   "                      21f      Arkansas

James, his wife, and two of their children were killed near the line of Parker and Jack counties in 1860 (Dallas Times Herald, 5 Dec 1860, as reported in McKinney Maze, IX (1991), p. 32).  In view of the above census record, that year must be incorrect.  According to Mildred McKinney Gee's  book, he died in 1865:  he, his wife, and a young son and daughter were massacred by Indians.  A son, aged 3, named Joe, was injured and left to die, but was rescued.  Joe later lived with relatives--with Sarah Ellen McKinney Harris and with his Uncle William McKinney while attending Trinity University.  In 1869 a citation notice concerning the estate of James McKinney, Sr., was addressed to "the unknown heirs of James McKinney deceased of Jacksborough Texas."
